We understand that you probably have just as many questions as your son or daughter…and maybe even more. This section is designed to help answer some of those questions.
*Why live in a residence hall?
In addition to the lifelong friendships that will develop, research shows involved students are more likely to get good grades and be satisfied with their college experience.
*How safe is the campus?
Safety and security is a top priority at Riverfront Residence Hall and in the surrounding neighborhoods of the community. The Hall features 24/7 staffed entry with keycard access. Electronic keycards are required for entrance at multiple points including the elevator, wing doors, suite doors and room doors. Resident Advisors also conduct rounds of the building in the evenings.
The residence hall is also equipped with smoke and fire detection systems and fire evacuation and severe weather drills are conducted periodically.
*Who provides support for students living in the residence hall?
Resident Advisors and a Hall Director live in the residence hall. In addition, there is a front desk that is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
*What is the occupancy of the residence hall?
The Riverfront Residence Hall will house 541 students, including 13 Resident Advisors and 1 Hall Director.
*Can students choose their own roommates?
Students may specify roommates/suitemates when they complete their housing contracts.
*What amenities are offered for students in the residence hall?
The Riverfront Residence Hall is a former Hyatt Regency hotel that has undergone a $20 million dollar renovation to offer the latest state-of-the-art student housing amenities and modern features. The hall offers multiple point access, cable tv, wireless Internet, print stations, laundry facilities and recycling stations. Vending machines, study areas, community lounges and multipurpose areas are also featured.
*Does the Riverfront Resident Hall have parking?
The hall has its own attached Riverfront Residence Hall Ramp. A $20 parking card deposit is required.
*What about dining?
In addition to in-room kitchenettes, a snack bar and vending machines, there are numerous established and new restaurants and coffee houses within a one- to two-block walk of the hall.
A voluntary meal plan is available through UM-Flint Dining Services.The dining center is located in the University Center (UCEN). Riverfront Residence Hall residents may purchase dining dollars at Event & Building Services, located at 176 Harding Mott University Center.
